No merger plan with PDP – LP

The Labour Party (LP), yesterday, urged Nigerians to disregard the news making around that the party is merging with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it is not in its plan to merge with any party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recall that the PDPs presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, suggested that opposition parties need to merge to defeat the ruling APC in the next presidential poll.

However, the LPs spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, while reacting to Atikus suggestion in a statement yesterday, said the party has not discussed any merger. He said Atikus call was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work in Nigeria and that what we have presently is an autocracy.

There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned, Ifoh emphasised.

Meanwhile, the APC faulted Atikus merger plan saying he was still struggling to come to terms with reality after his loss at the presidential poll. In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the PDP should focus on resolving its internal party crisis.
